This section outlines the supported vNIOS X6 appliances for AWS and their specifications.

> ⚠️ **Note**
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - Up to NIOS 9.0.6, Infoblox supported large configurations or EC2 shapes on IB-V926, IB-V1516, IB-V1526, IB-V2326, and IB-V4126 appliances.
> ⚠️ - **From NIOS 9.0.7 onwards, Infoblox also supports small configurations or EC2 shapes** without sacrificing Infoblox stated performance. **vNIOS appliance models perform equally well even with small configurations and have the same service capabilities as the larger configurations.**
> ⚠️ - These specifications have been thoroughly tested and qualified for each Trinzic X6 series model. Each of these specifications is capable of functioning effectively either as a Grid Master, Grid Master Candidate, or as a Grid member regardless of which services are enabled.
> ⚠️ - If you are using Threat Protection/DNS Infrastructure Protection (in NIOS 9.0.8 or later), see the specifications at [https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/vniosspec/pages/1488715947](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/vniosspec/pages/1488715947).

# Redeploying from a Larger vNIOS for AWS Configuration to a Smaller vNIOS for AWS Configuration

If you have deployed large configurations, you do not need to re-deploy your configuration to a smaller instance; however, you can do so if you desire. Infoblox recommends the following workflow for the deployment:

1. Deploy a replacement appliance with the desired smaller configuration.
2. Power off the existing Infoblox appliance.
3. Change the IP address to the new Infoblox appliance.
4. Retire the Infoblox large appliance configuration.

# vNIOS for AWS Trinzic Appliances

The following table lists the models of vNIOS for AWS appliances supported in NIOS 9.0.1 and later. These models support the cloud platform feature. To use the feature, you must install the Cloud Platform license. For more information, refer to the *Managing Licenses in NIOS 9.0.1* topic in the *[Infoblox NIOS Documentation](https://docs.infoblox.com/space/NIOS/35400616/NIOS)*.

The below vNIOS appliances running on NIOS 9.0.1 or later, additionally support the following features:

- Virtual DNS Cache Acceleration: IB-V2225, IB-V4015, IB-V4025, IB-V2326, IB-V4126, and supported IB-FLEX appliances.
- DNS Infrastructure Protection: All supported Trinzic X5, Trinzic X6, and IB-FLEX appliances.

# vNIOS for AWS Reporting Appliance

The following table lists the vNIOS for AWS reporting model supported from NIOS 8.6.2 and later releases:

| **vNIOS Appliances** | **Overall Disk Space**
**(GB)** | **vCPUs** | **Memory Allocation**
**(GB)** | **Amazon** **EC2** **Shape for all Regions** | **Supported as Grid Master and Grid Master Candidate** |

> ⚠️ **Note**
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - Infoblox recommends that you allocate a minimum of 250 GB of additional disk space for reporting storage requirements. It can be extended up to 2.5 TB.
> ⚠️ - Infoblox supports only R4, R6i, and M5 type of EC2 shapes and recommends that you choose only those shapes for your reporting vNIOS instances.
> ⚠️ - To enable the reporting functionality on IB-V5005 instances, you must open the required ports in the configured security group. For more information, see the *Defining an AWS Instance Security Group* section in the *[vNIOS for AWS Installation Guide](https://docs.infoblox.com/space/NAIG/22413317/Installation+Guide+for+vNIOS+for+AWS)*.

# Guidelines and Recommendations

- The CPU, memory, and disk space of a virtual appliance is driven by the EC2 shape that you select.
- The M7i and R7i EC2 shapes are supported from NIOS version 9.0.5 onwards.
- If an EC2 shape is not available in your region for a vNIOS model, use an alternate shape for the appliance model. For example, for IB-V1526, if the shape r7i.4xlarge is not available, then try to use r6i.4xlarge or m5.4xlarge.
- You have the option to configure the storage in one of the following ways: 500 GB for virtual appliances running on NIOS versions 9.0.1 and later or a value between 150 GB and 2.5 TB configured during the first boot if the vNIOS instances are set up with resizable images.
- The Amazon EC2 instance types R6i and M5 are supported in NIOS 8.6.3 and later versions of 8.6.x.
- For information about supported IB-FLEX appliances, see *[vNIOS for AWS X5 series](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/vniosspec/pages/1488551967)*.
