You can use the capabilities of Terraform to automatically deploy and manage vNIOS for Google Cloud instances from the Google Cloud Marketplace UI. You can deploy the instance with a single or two network interfaces, or set up HA with three network interfaces. In Google Cloud, the network interfaces are labelled as nic0, nic1, and nic2 in the order of their creation. These interfaces are labelled in NIOS as MGMT, LAN1, and HA respectively.

After *[selecting the NIOS solution](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/vniosgcp/pages/1458798711)*, when you click the **Launch** button on the *Product details* page, a deployment page is displayed with values automatically populated in some fields based on previous configurations. Click a field that you want to make changes to and update the values as described in the steps below to deploy a vNIOS instance.

Note that if you are deploying vNIOS for Google Cloud with HA, you must deploy two vNIOS instances for the nodes of the HA pair.

To deploy an instance, complete the following steps:

1. On the *New Infoblox NIOS BYOL deployment* page > **Terraform** tab, complete the following;
2. **Deployment name**: Type a name for this deployment.
3. **Deployment Service Account**: Select the service account to use for this deployment:  
For more information about the role permissions the account must have, see *Prerequisites*.
  1. Select **Existing account** and choose the account in the **Select a Service Account** drop-down list if you have already created a service account.  
Only those accounts that have the required roles are populated in the list.   
Or
  2. Select **New account** and create an account by entering the service account name, ID, and description.  
By default, Google Cloud assigns the minimum permissions required for the marketplace deployment.  
Note: If you are setting up HA, you must edit this account to attach the role that has permissions required for HA.
4. **Image version**: Select one of the following NIOS images:
  - **infoblox-nios-906-byol**, for NIOS version 9.0.6
  - **infoblox-nios-905-byol**, for NIOS version 9.0.5
5. **Zone**: Choose a zone where you want the instance to be stored.
6. **Machine type**: According to the vNIOS appliance that you want to deploy, select the machine type. The selected type sets the vCPU and memory specifications for the instance.
  1. **Series**: According to the required machine type, select **N1** or **N4**.
  2. **Machine type**: Select the type from the drop-down list.  
For example, if you want to deploy an IB-V926 appliance, select **n1-highmem-8**.

7. **Boot Disk**: Select a disk as follows:
  1. **Boot disk type**: Choose the disk type according to the NIOS version and the machine type:
    - Choose **SSD Persistent Disk **for a Trinzic X5 or X6 appliance with an N1 series machine type.  
Infoblox recommends **SSD persistent disk** for better performance.
    - Choose **Hyperdisk Balanced** for a Trinzic X5 or X6 appliance with an N4 series machine type, supported from NIOS 9.0.7 onwards.
  2. **Boot disk size in GB**: Enter **500**.
8. **Networking**: You can deploy the instance with a single network interface, two network interfaces, or with three network interfaces to set up HA.  
By default, the Google Cloud instance is added with a network interface. If you are deploying a single interface instance, the interface is assigned to the LAN1 port and if you are deploying a two or three interfaces instance, the interface is assigned to the MGMT port. You can either expand the network interface menu and update the default values in the editor or click **Add a network interface** and add a new interface:
  - To set up a single network interface instance in a host project, complete the following:
    - **Network**: Change the default network to the correct network.
    - **Subnetwork**: Select your subnetwork.
    - **External IP**: Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
    - Click **Done**.
  - To set up a single network interface instance in a service project that must use the shared VPC in its host project, complete the following:  
Note that this configuration is allowed only for the single network interface instance of vNIOS for Google Cloud.
    - Select **Networks shared with me (from host project: <*****host project name*****>)**.
    - **Subnetwork**: Select your shared subnetwork of the host project from the drop-down list.
    - Click **Done**.
  - To set up a two network interfaces instance, complete the following:  
Note: When you need to add a network interface to an existing vNIOS for Google Cloud instance, you must power off the instance, add the interface, and then start the instance.
    - The default network interface is allocated to the MGMT port. Either expand the network interface menu and update the default values in the editor or click **Add a network interface** and add a new interface as follows:
      - **Network**: Change the default network to the correct network.
      - **Subnetwork**: Select your subnetwork.
      - **External IP**: Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
      - Click **Done**.
    - To add a second interface for LAN1, in the *Network interfaces* section, click **Add a network interface**:
      - In the *New network interface* dialog box, choose a network and subnet for the LAN1 interface.
      - Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
      - Click **Done**.
  - To deploy vNIOS for Google Cloud with HA, you must deploy two instances as nodes of the HA pair. Each instance must have MGMT, LAN1 and HA interfaces.  
Google Cloud requires that each of the three interfaces is assigned to subnetworks on different VPCs. Additionally, after deploying the instances, you must configure an alias IP address on the HA interface of one of the HA nodes as described in the *Setting up a vNIOS Instance for HA* section.  
Note: The service account that you attach to the instances must have the permissions required to set up HA. For more information see *Prerequisites*.  
To set up an instance for HA, complete the following steps:
    - The default network interface is allocated to the MGMT port. Either expand the network interface menu and update the default values in the editor or click **Add a network interface** and add a new interface as follows:
      - **Network**: Change the default network to the correct network.
      - **Subnetwork**: Select your subnetwork.
      - **External IP**: Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
      - Click **Done**.
    - To add a second interface for LAN1, in the *Network interfaces* section, click **Add a network interface**:
      - In the *New network interface* dialog box, choose a network and subnet for the LAN1 interface.  
You must choose a subnet that is on a VPC that is different from the VPCs of the MGMT and HA interfaces.
      - Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
      - Click **Done**.
    - To add a third interface for HA, in the *Network interfaces* section, click **Add a network interface**:
      - In the *New network interface* dialog box, choose a network and subnet for the LAN1 interface.  
Choose a subnet that is on a VPC, which is different from the VPCs of the MGMT and LAN1 interfaces.
      - Select **None** for the external IP address as it is not supported.
      - Click **Done**.
9. **API Access**: If you deploying Select the instance for HA, select **Allow full access to all Google Cloud Platform APIs on the VM**.
10. Click **Deploy**.

# Setting up a vNIOS Instance for HA

Deploy two instances of vNIOS for Google Cloud as the nodes of an HA pair. Each node must be configured with MGMT, LAN1, and HA interfaces as explained in the section above. To complete the HA setup, you must configure an alias IP address on the HA interface of one of the nodes as follows:

1. In the Google Cloud Console, from the *Compute Engine* panel, navigate to **Virtual machines** > **VM instances**
2. Power off the instance on which you want to configure the alias IP address.
3. Click the instance to display its details page.
4. Click **Edit** to display the editor.
5. In the *Network Interfaces* section, expand the third (HA) interface.
6. Under *Alias IP ranges*, click **Add IP range** and complete the following:
  1. **Subnet range**: Select a range from the drop-down list.
  2. **Alias IP range**: Specify the alias IP address.  
NIOS uses the alias IP address configured on the active node as the VIP (virtual IP) for external communication.
  3. **External IPv4 address**: Ensure that **None** is selected because this feature is not supported.
7. Click **Done**.
8. Click **Save**.
