A network profile defines networks and network settings used when provisioning VMs in *VMware Aria ‌Automation Assembler*. The IPAM Plug-In for VMware supports external and NSX network profile types.

# Creating External Network Profiles

The IPAM Plug-In for VMware supports only external networks for creating external network profiles. On-demand networks are not supported.

To create a network profile, complete the following steps:

1. In the VMware Aria* ‌Automation Assembler*, on the **Infrastructure** tab, navigate to **Configure** -> **Network Profiles**.
2. Click **NEW Network Profile**.  
The *New Network Profile* page is displayed.
3. On the **Summary** tab:
  1. **Account / region**: Search for and select your account / region.
  2. **Name**: Type a name for the profile.
  3. **Capability tags**: Add a capability tag that matches with tag you used for the project and cloud zone that was created in a prior step.  
You must use the same tag when deploying the workload using a template.
4. On the **Networks** tab:
  1. Click **ADD NETWORK** to add the vCenter networks that must be used when provisioning VMs.
    1. In the *Add Network* dialog box, select the required networks/distributed port groups.
    2. Click **ADD**.
  2. In the list of networks, select the added network and click **MANAGE IP RANGES**.
    1. In the *Manage IP Ranges* dialog box, click **NEW** and complete the following in the *New IP Range* dialog box:
      1. **Source**: Select **External**.
      2. **Provider**: Select name of the IPAM integration created in a prior step.
      3. **Address **space: Choose an address space.  
A list of IP address ranges available for selection are displayed.
      4. Select an IP range to add to the network and click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the selected network.
      5. Click **Close**.
  3. In the network list, select your network and click **TAGS**: and complete the following to add tags that must be applied:
    1. Click **Add tags** and select tags to apply from the drop-down list.
    2. Click **Save**.
  4. Click **CREATE**.

## Using IP Range Filters

To refine the network range search results, you can add filters in the **Search** field of the *New IP Range* dialog box:

- **Name**:** **Filters the IP ranges based on the network name.  
For example, you could use network prefixes such as `Name: 10.35.*` or subnet `Name: /24` to filter the IP ranges.
- **Tags**: Filters the IP ranges based on tags.
  - Using range-type tag: The possible values for this tag are, network and range.  
Example -  `Tags: range-type:range`
  - Using extensible attributes defined in the NIOS network  
Example - `Tags: Country:US*, Building:3111`

# Creating NSX Network Profiles

NSX network profiles can be used to define networks and settings of a specific NSX cloud account. They support use of existing or on-demand networks based on the network type selected. Integrating the IPAM Plug-in for VMware with NSX enables you to deploy cloud templates with existing or on-demand networks.

You can create NSX network profiles with the following network types and use them to deploy cloud templates:

- Existing: The cloud template deployment uses existing external networks that are available for use to connect to VMs.
- Public: The cloud template deployment uses existing public networks for outbound access.
- NSX supports the creation of on-demand networks for the following network types:
  - Private: The cloud template deployment creates on-demand networks with no inbound or outbound connectivity to VMs.
  - Outbound: The cloud template deployment creates an on-demand network that provides only outbound connectivity.
  - Routed: The cloud template deployment creates an on-demand network that provides both inbound and outbound connectivity.

## NSX Network Profile with Existing Networks

When you deploy a cloud template that is using an NSX network profile with an existing network:

- In vSphere, a VM attached with IP address from the NIOS network and NSX segment is created.
- In NIOS, an entry is added for the VM that is created.

Complete the following prerequisites to create an NSX network profile with an existing network:

- In the NSX manager, set up a segment and connect it to Gateway-0.
- In NIOS, create a network corresponding to the segment created in NSX.

To create a network profile, complete the following steps:

1. In the VMware Aria* ‌Automation Assembler*, on the **Infrastructure** tab, navigate to **Configure** -> **Network Profiles**.
2. Click **NEW Network Profile**.  
The *New Network Profile* page is displayed.
3. On the **Summary** tab:
  1. **Account / region**: Search for and select your account / region.
  2. **Name**: Type a name for the profile.
  3. **Capability tags**: Add a capability tag that matches with tag you used for the project and cloud zone that was created in a prior step.  
You must use the same tag when deploying the workload using a template.
4. On the **Networks** tab:
  1. Click **ADD NETWORK** to add the network that must be used when provisioning VMs:
    1. In the *Add Network* dialog box, select the required NSX network.
    2. Click **ADD**.
  2. In the list of networks, select the NSX network that you added and click **MANAGE IP RANGES**.
    1. In the *Manage IP Ranges* dialog box, click **NEW** and complete the following in the *New IP Range* dialog box:
      1. **Source**: Select **External**.
      2. **Provider**: Select the name of the IPAM integration created in a prior step.
      3. **Address **space: Choose an address space.  
A list of IP address ranges available for selection are displayed.
      4. Select the IP range that is corresponding to the subnet associated with the NSX segment and click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the selected network.
      5. Click **Close**.
  3. In the network list, select your network and click **TAGS**: and complete the following to add tags that must be applied:
    1. Click **Add tags** and select tags to apply from the drop-down list.
    2. Click **Save**.
  4. Click **CREATE**.

## NSX Network Profile with Public Networks

When you deploy a cloud template that is using an NSX network profile with an existing public network:

- In vSphere, a VM attached with IP address from the NIOS network and connected to the NSX segment, is created.
- In NIOS, an entry is added for the VM that is created.

Complete the following prerequisites to create an NSX network profile with a public network:

- In the NSX manager, set up a segment and connect it to Gateway-0.
- In NIOS, create a network corresponding to the segment created in NSX.


 To create a network profile, complete the following steps:

1. In the VMware Aria* ‌Automation Assembler*, on the **Infrastructure** tab, navigate to **Configure** -> **Network Profiles**.
2. Click **NEW Network Profile**.  
The *New Network Profile* page is displayed.

      1. **Source**: Select **External**.
      2. **Provider**: Select the name of the IPAM integration created in a prior step.
      3. **Address space**: Choose an address space.  
A list of IP address ranges available for selection are displayed.
      4. Select the IP range that is corresponding to the subnet associated with the NSX segment and click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the selected network.
      5. Click **Close**.
    2. In the list of Networks, click your network to display its details.
    3. Scroll down and select **Support public IP**.
  3. Click **CREATE**.

## NSX Network Profile with Private Networks

When you deploy a cloud template that is using an NSX network profile with a private network:

- In NIOS:
  - The next available network with the specified subnet size is added within the network container created in NIOS.
  - An entry of the created VM is added in that network.
  - The first IP address of this network will be a reservation IP address.
- In NSX, a segment corresponding to the network created is added.
- In vSphere, a VM assigned with an IP address from the NIOS network is added and the newly created NSX segment (distributed port group) is attached to it.

Complete the following prerequisites to create an NSX network profile with a private network:

- In NIOS, create a network container.
- In the NSX manager, set up a transport zone, a Tier-0 logical router, an edge cluster, and a segment connected to the Tier-0 Gateway.


To create a network profile, complete the following steps:

1. In the VMware Aria* ‌Automation Assembler*, on the **Infrastructure** tab, navigate to **Configure** -> **Network Profiles**.
2. Click **NEW Network Profile**.  
The *New Network Profile* page is displayed.
3. On the **Summary** tab:
  1. **Account / region**: Search for and select your account / region.
  2. **Name**: Type a name for the profile.
  3. **Capability tags**: Add a capability tag that matches with tag you used for the project and cloud zone that was created in a prior step.  
You must use the same tag when deploying the workload using a template.
4. On the **Network Policies** tab:
  1. **Isolation policy**: Choose **On-demand network** from the drop-down list.
  2. **Network Resources**: Specify a **Transport zone** to provide on-demand resources.
  3. IP Address Management:
    1. **Source**: Select External.
    2. Click **ADD IP BLOCK**.
    3. In the *Add IPAM IP Block* dialog box:
      1. **Source**: Select **External**.
      2. **Provider**: Select name of the IPAM integration created in a prior step.
      3. **Address **space: Choose an address space.  
A list of IP address ranges available for selection are displayed.
      4. Select an IP range to add to the network and click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the selected network.
    4. **Subnet size**: Choose a subnet size.
5. Click **Create**.

## NSX Network Profile with Outbound Networks

When you deploy a cloud template that is using an NSX network profile with an outbound network:

- In NIOS:
  - A network with the specified subnet size is added within the network container created in NIOS.
  - An entry of the created VM is added in that network.
  - The first IP address of this network will be a reserved range.
- In NSX:
  - A Tier-1 Gateway is created.
  - A segment is created and connected to that Tier-1 Gateway.
  - A NAT Rule associated with the Tier-1 Gateway is added.
- In vSphere:
  - A VM assigned with an IP address from the NIOS network is added and the newly created NSX segment (distributed port group) is attached to it.

Complete the following prerequisites to create an NSX network profile with an outbound network:

- In NIOS, create a network container.
- In the NSX manager, set up a transport zone, a Tier-0 logical router, an edge cluster, and a segment connected to the Tier-0 Gateway.
  

To create a network profile, complete the following steps:

1. In the VMware Aria* ‌Automation Assembler*, on the **Infrastructure** tab, navigate to **Configure** -> **Network Profiles**.
2. Click **NEW Network Profile**.  
The *New Network Profile* page is displayed.
3. On the **Summary** tab:

  2. **Name**: Type a name for the profile.

You must use the same tag when deploying the workload using a template.
4. On the **Networks** tab:
  1. Click **ADD NETWORK** to add the NSX network that must be used when provisioning VMs:
    1. In the *Add Network* dialog box, select the required network.
    2. Click **ADD**.
  2. In the list of networks, select the network that you created and click **MANAGE IP RANGES**.
  3. In the *Manage IP Ranges* dialog box, click **NEW** and complete the following in the *New IP Range* dialog box:
    1. **Source**: Select **Internal**.
    2. **Name**: Type a name for the range.
    3. **Start IP address**: Choose the starting IP address for this range.
    4. **End IP address**: Choose the ending IP address for this range.
    5. Click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the defined range.
    6. Click **Close**.
5. On the **Network Policies** tab:
  1. **Isolation policy**: Choose **On-demand network** from the drop-down list.
  2. Under **Network Resources**:
    1. **Transport zone**: Specify **edge-overlay-transport-zone** to provide on-demand resources.
    2. **External network**: Specify an external network.
    3. **Tier-0 logical** router: Specify **Gateway-0**.
    4. **Edge cluster**: Specify **edge-01**.
  3. Under **IP Address Management**:
    1. **Source**: Select **External**.
    2. Click **ADD IP BLOCK**.
    3. In the *Add IPAM IP Block* dialog box:
      1. **Provider**: Select name of the IPAM integration created in a prior step.
      2. **Address space**: Choose an address space.  
A list of IP address ranges available for selection are displayed.
      3. Select an IP range to add to the network and click **ADD**.  
When provisioning a VM, an IP address is allocated from the selected network.
    4. **Subnet size**: Choose a subnet size.
6. Click **Create**.

## NSX Network Profile with Routed Networks

When you deploy a cloud template that is using an NSX network profile with a routed network:

- In NIOS:
  - A network with the specified subnet size is added within the network container created in NIOS.
  - An entry of the created VM is added in that network.
  - The first IP address of this network will be a reserved range.
- In NSX:
  - A Tier-1 Gateway is created.
  - A segment is created and connected to that Tier-1 Gateway.
- In vSphere:
  - A VM assigned with an IP address from the NIOS network is added and the newly created NSX segment is attached to it.

Complete the following prerequisites to create an NSX network profile with a routed network:

- In NIOS, create a network container.
- In the NSX manager, set up a transport zone, a Tier-0 logical router, and an edge cluster.
