ServiceNow is a widely used enterprise platform for IT service management (ITSM) and configuration management, providing a centralized system of record for infrastructure, applications, and services through its Configuration Management Database (CMDB). By aggregating data from multiple sources, ServiceNow helps organizations track assets, relationships, and operational states, enabling more effective service management, change control, and governance.

Integrating **ServiceNow** with **Universal Asset Insights** extends this centralized view by continuously synchronizing asset and CMDB data into a unified asset inventory. Assets discovered and maintained in ServiceNow are correlated with data from DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and other discovery sources, providing a single, authoritative view of assets across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This integration improves asset accuracy, enhances cross-system reconciliation, and strengthens visibility by aligning ServiceNow CMDB records with real-time network intelligence.

> ⚠️ The ServiceNow integration is one-directional. Universal Asset Insights retrieves and analyzes CMDB data from ServiceNow but does not write back or modify any records in the ServiceNow CMDB. This integration is read-only and does not introduce new data into ServiceNow, eliminating the risk of unintended CMDB changes.

Complete the following steps to configure discovery for ServiceNow:

1. **Provider Type:** Select **ServiceNow** to indicate that ServiceNow is the discovery source.
2. **Name:** Enter a unique and descriptive name to identify the discovery configuration, for example, `ServiceNow-Production`.
3. **Description:** (Optional) Provide additional information describing the purpose or scope of this discovery source.
4. **Sync Interval:** Select **Auto** to allow the system to manage the synchronization frequency automatically, or choose a predefined interval from the drop-down list.
5. **Discovery Status:** Ensure the status is set to **Enabled** so that the discovery job runs according to the configured interval.
6. **Endpoint:** Enter the fully qualified URL of the ServiceNow instance, for example, `https://company.service-now.com`.
7. **Account Preference:** Select **Single** to use one credential set for all discovery operations.
8. **Type of Access:** Select **Static Credential** to authenticate using stored credentials.
9. **Credentials:** Select **Existing** to use a previously created credential.
10. Alternatively, click **New** to create a new credential for this discovery source and configure the following:
  1. **Credential Name:** If **New** is selected, enter a unique name to identify the credential.
  2. **Credential Description:** (Optional) Provide additional information describing the purpose or usage of the credential.
  3. **Username:** Enter the ServiceNow user name that Universal DDI uses to authenticate with the ServiceNow instance.
  4. **Password:** Enter the password associated with the specified ServiceNow user.
  5. **Add Tags:** (Optional) Add tags to the credential to support organization, filtering, and governance.
  6. Click Save to save the credential and confirm that it is available for selection in the **Credentials** list.
11. **Credential Permissions:** Verify that the selected credentials have sufficient permissions in ServiceNow to access asset and CMDB data.
12. **Discovery Scope:** Review this section and note that, by default, all asset types are included.
13. **Manage Discovery Scope:** Click **Manage** if you want to include or exclude specific asset types from discovery.
14. **User Defined Tags:** Review whether any tags are already associated with the discovery configuration.
15. **Manage Tags:** Add, edit, or remove tags for classification and organization, if required.
16. Click **Save** to save the configuration.
