> 📝 You can create a passive discovery only if your account is subscribed to Universal DDI only.

The table below shows how license entitlements affect job behaviors.

| **License Entitlements** | **Can users create Passive Discovery jobs?** | **Job behavior** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Universal DDI only | Yes | Users can manually create new discovery jobs. |
| Threat Defense only | No | Passive discovery job is created automatically by default. |
| Threat Defense and Universal DDI | No | Passive discovery job is created automatically by default. |

To create a new Passive Discovery job:

1. Log in to the Infoblox Portal.
2. Go to **Integrations > Discovery > On-Prem**.
3. Click **Create** > **Passive Discovery**.
4. In the **Create Passive Discovery** dialog, do the following:

- **State**: Move the switch to enable or disable the discovery.
- **Manage Assets**: By default, the toggle is set to **Enabled**. The behavior of this field varies depending on your licensing entitlement as follows:
  - **Threat Defense Only**: The **Manage Assets** field is not available.
  - **Threat Defense and Universal DDI**: The **Manage Assets** field is toggled to** Disabled **by default. Consequently, all newly discovered assets are categorized as **Unmanaged**. When disabled, assets discovered by this job will be added as unmanaged and will not consume management tokens.
  - **Universal DDI Only: **The **Manage Assets** field is toggled to **Enabled** by default. Consequently, all newly discovered assets are categorized as **Managed**. When enabled, assets discovered by this job will be added as managed and will consume management tokens.
- **Name**: Enter the name of this discovery job.
- **Description**: Enter additional information about the discovery job.

> 📝 You can create only one passive discovery configuration. If a passive discovery configuration already exists, you may edit it, but you cannot create another one.

Under the **Type** section, do the following:

**DHCP**: Use the switch to enable or disable the discovery of assets through DHCP logs. When you enable discovery through DHCP logs, you must select at least one of the following:

- **NIOS-X**: Select this to discover NIOS-X physical or virtual servers. For information on NIOS-X servers, see *[Deploying NIOS-X Servers](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BloxOneInfrastructure/pages/204800163)*.
- **NIOS**: Select this to discover on-premises NIOS Grids.

**Infoblox Endpoint**: Use the switch to enable or disable the discovery of all Infoblox managed endpoints.
