> ⚠️ Discovery data updates for DNS and IPAM are not supported if your account is configured with only the Infoblox Threat Defense license entitlement.

Use this discovery method if your infrastructure contains NIOS-X servers that have Discovery enabled. Before you can configure discovery for your on-prem assets, you must first set up NIOS-X Discovery servers and create a Discovery service.

> 📝 Deploying a NIOS-X Discovery server is applicable only to discovering on-premises assets. Cloud and third-party discovery utilizes cloud-to-cloud discovery, where the discovery tools and systems use the cloud or third-party providers' APIs to collect data about your cloud infrastructure, including virtual machines, databases, storage, and network configurations.
