<span style="color: #000000">Before deploying your B1-212 appliance, consider the following when setting up your B1-212 appliance:</span>  


- <span style="color: #000000">Ensure that review the </span><u><span style="color: #0000ff">*[connectivity and service requirements](https://docs.infoblox.com/space/BloxOneInfrastructure/873660456/NIOS-X+Server+Connectivity+and+Service+Requirements)*</span></u><span style="color: #000000"> for the deployment.</span>
- <span style="color: #000000">If you plan to configure the NIOS-X server using a static IP, obtain the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and other DNS information.</span>

<span style="color: #000000">When you purchase your B1-212 appliance from Infoblox, the appliance is pre-provisioned and automatically appears on the list of NIOS-X servers in the Infoblox Portal. At this stage, the appliance is in a </span><span style="color: #000000">**Pending**</span><span style="color: #000000"> state.</span>

<span style="color: #000000">To activate the host connection to Infoblox Portal, complete the following:</span>

1. <span style="color: #000000">Connect the following to your B1-212 appliance:</span>
  1. <span style="color: #000000">The power cable that comes with the appliance.</span>
  2. <span style="color: #000000">An Ethernet cable using the GE 1 port at the back of the appliance. (You must use the GE 1 port to connect the appliance in the initial setup. Once the appliance is up and running, you can use all GE1, GE2, GE3, GE4, GE5, GE6, SFP1 and SFP ports in your configuration.)</span>  
<span style="color: #000000">**Note**</span><span style="color: #000000">: On the Infoblox Portal, the GE 1 port appears as en01, GE 2 as en02, GE 3 as en03, GE 4 as en04, GE 5 as en05, GE 6 as en06, SFP1 as en07 and SFP2 as en08. </span>
2. <span style="color: #000000">Power up the appliance by pressing the power button and releasing it quickly. If your network has DHCP service available, your B1-212 appliance will automatically receive an IP address and the Infoblox Portal can detect the appliance and its IP address.</span>  
<span style="color: #000000">**Note**</span><span style="color: #000000">: Once you power up the appliance, the appliance automatically enters the </span><span style="color: #000000">**Awaiting Approval**</span><span style="color: #000000"> state. You can now log in to the Infoblox Portal to approve or deny the host connection.</span>
3. <span style="color: #000000">If your network does not have DHCP servers available, the appliance will fall back to the default IP address 192.168.1.2. Configure the B1-212 appliance through an internet browser. To do so, the management PC or workstation on which you open the browser must have an IP address in the same subnet as the B1-212 appliance (for example, use 192.168.1.0/24 if your network does not have a DHCP server).</span>
4. <span style="color: #000000">Open the internet browser on the management PC or workstation and enter https://192.168.1.2 or https://</span><span style="color: #000000">*<allocated_IP>*</span><span style="color: #000000"> if the IP address was allocated via the DHCP server in your network. </span><span style="color: #292a2e">If you cannot access the IP address by using </span><span style="color: #000000">**https://**</span><span style="color: #292a2e">, try using </span><span style="color: #000000">**http://**</span><span style="color: #000000">. Enter the following credentials:</span>
  - <span style="color: #000000">**Username**</span><span style="color: #000000">: Enter admin as the login user name for the B1-212 appliance. </span>
  - <span style="color: #000000">**Password**</span><span style="color: #000000">: Enter the last seven or eight digits of the serial number mentioned on the Service Tag of the B1-212 appliance. </span>
5. <span style="color: #000000">The bootstrap interface appears in the browser. Based on whether you are using DHCP or a static IP, select the respective Network Mode, and then enter the required IP address information. </span>
6. <span style="color: #000000">Click </span><span style="color: #000000">**Apply Changes**</span><span style="color: #000000"> on the bootstrap UI to submit the configuration changes.</span>

> ⚠️ ### Notes
> ⚠️ 
> ⚠️ - <span style="color: #000000">When connecting a hardware appliance to the Infoblox Portal, ensure that you DO NOT enter the join token in the Device UI. Otherwise, the appliance will lose connectivity to the Infoblox Portal when the host certificate expires. Instead, use the serial number of the appliance to connect to the Infoblox Portal.</span>

<span style="color: #000000">After you have set up the appliance successfully, you will not be able to access the Device UI again unless connection issues occur with the appliance, in which case you can use the Device UI to perform some troubleshooting tasks for the appliance. <span style="color: #000000">If you need to re-configure the appliance, you must first reset it to the factory default, see </span><span style="color: #000000">[Resetting the B1-212](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DeployB1212Appliance/pages/375423212)</span><span style="color: #000000"> . In addition, if you have not configured any NTP server or local DNS resolver, the appliance will use the Ubuntu NTP server (ntp.ubuntu.org or ubuntu.pool.ntp.org) and Infoblox DDI DNS (IP: 52.119.40.100 or 103.80.5.100). Because these services do not communicate via an HTTPS proxy, you must ensure that the NTP port (UDP 123) and the DNS port (TCP/UDP 53) are open on your firewall.</span>
