<span style="color: #000000">Assignment of a new Infoblox Endpoint takes place at the time of its installation. By default, a new endpoint is assigned to the All Infoblox Endpoints (Default) group. To override the default assignment, assign the endpoint to a custom endpoint group that must already have been created in the Infoblox Portal before the endpoint is installed. For additional information on Infoblox Endpoint, see the following: </span>

> ⚠️ You cannot assign an endpoint to a custom endpoint group in the following scenarios:
> ⚠️ 
> ⚠️ **Scenario 1**: <span style="color: #000000">The endpoint has a client ID associated with it. In this scenario, the endpoint will be assigned back to </span><span style="color: #000000">*All Infoblox Endpoints (Default)*</span><span style="color: #000000">.</span>
> ⚠️ 
> ⚠️ **Scenario 2**: <span style="color: #000000">Another endpoint is currently assigned to the same custom endpoint group. In this scenario, the other endpoint will remain assigned to the group, the client ID which is associated with the endpoint group will remain with the other endpoint and cannot be reassigned or transferred to the new endpoint, and the new endpoint will be assigned to the default endpoint group.</span>

## Adding a New Endpoint to a Custom Endpoint Group

To add a new endpoint to a custom endpoint group, do the following:

1. Review the *[Creating Endpoint Groups](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BloxOneThreatDefense/pages/35473957)* documentation.
2. In the Infoblox Portal, go to **Security** > **Threat Defense **> **Endpoints** > **Endpoint Groups**.
3. On the* Endpoint Groups* page, click **Create**. Complete the endpoint group creation process as described in the *[Creating Endpoint Groups](https://infoblox-docs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BloxOneThreatDefense/pages/35473957)* documentation. This will create the endpoint group where you will install the endpoint.
4. In the **Endpoint Group Name** field on the *Create Endpoints Group* page, provide a name for the new endpoint group.
5. Click **Save** to save the newly created group. Alternatively, complete the configuration process for the endpoint group prior to saving it.
6. Download the <span style="color: #000000">**Infoblox**</span>** Endpoint installe**r from **System** > **Downloads** > **Endpoint **and <span style="color: #000000">click </span><span style="color: #000000">**Refresh **</span><span style="color: #000000">to verify the new endpoint has been installed in the new custom endpoint group. On the Endpoint Groups page, the number of endpoints in the endpoint group will be updated to reflect the addition of an endpoint to the group. 7. U<span style="color: #000000">nzip the downloaded folder and open the configuration file</span>, **endpoint_group.txt**.
8. <span style="color: #000000">In the file, add the name of the created Infoblox group. Save and close the file.</span>
9. Click <span style="color: #000000">**Infoblox**</span>** Endpoint installer** and wait for the installation process to complete.
10. <span style="color: #000000">In the Infoblox Portal, navigate to </span><span style="color: #000000">**Security**</span><span style="color: #000000"> > </span><span style="color: #000000">**Threat Defense**</span><span style="color: #000000"> > </span><span style="color: #000000">**Endpoints**</span><span style="color: #000000"> > </span><span style="color: #000000">**Endpoint**</span><span style="color: #000000"> </span><span style="color: #000000">**Groups**</span><span style="color: #000000">, click </span><span style="color: #000000">**Refresh**</span><span style="color: #000000">, and verify that the new endpoint has been installed in the new custom endpoint group. On the</span><span style="color: #d13438"> </span><span style="color: #000000">Endpoint Groups page, the number of endpoints in the endpoint group will be updated to reflect the addition of an endpoint to the group.</span>

> ❌ <span style="color: #000000">If you add the installed endpoint to the configuration file before adding the endpoint to the Infoblox Portal, then the endpoint will be added to the default endpoint group, All Infoblox Endpoints (Default). In addition, if the endpoint group you added to the configuration file has a name that differs from that of the endpoint group you have just created then it will be added to the default group</span><span style="color: #d13438">. </span><span style="color: #000000">Otherwise, then the endpoint group will be invalidated, and the new endpoint will be assigned to the default endpoint group. </span>
