Before installing the ISO image:

- Ensure that the Dell server is updated with the latest firmware.
- Reset the BIOS
- Ensure that a network cable is available to connect to the VEP server.

## Resetting the BIOS

1. Use the serial device console to establish a connection between the appliance and your Mac or Windows computer:
  - Use a small screwdriver to open the panel that covers the Micro‑USB port on the left side of the appliance’s back panel.
  - Use a USB Type‑A cable to connect the **VEP 1425/1485** Micro‑USB port to your computer.
2. On your computer, download and install the <u>*[CP210x USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port (VCP)](https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers)*</u> driver from Silicon Labs.
3. On your computer, install a serial-interface terminal:
  1. On a Mac, install Minicom by using the instructions provided on <u>*[Install Minicom on macOS](https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/minicom)*</u>, and then enter the following command in the terminal.
  2. On a Windows computer, do the following:
    1. In Device Manager, verify that the CP2102 driver has been installed.
      Use a terminal emulator, such as PuTTY, to locate and configure the serial port represented by the USB connection:
      1. **Serial line**: Enter the name for the connection.
      2. **Speed**: Enter **115200** as the baud rate.
      3. **Connection type**: Select **Serial**.
    2. To save the configuration, enter a name in **Saved Sessions** and click **Save**.
      
4. Insert the bootable USB drive (created earlier) into the USB1 interface on the right-hand side of the appliance, and then reset or restart the appliance.
5. To power up the appliance, connect the power cable to a power source. The console window will display the test screen **POST Lower DRAM Memory**.
6. After the cursor moves to the upper-left corner, press and hold the **Delete** key on your keyboard until the message **Press <DEL> or <F2> to enter setup** appears.
7. Depending on the BIOS version, you may be prompted to enter a password. If prompted, enter the serial number of the appliance followed by an exclamation mark. For example, if the serial number is 1234ABC, enter 1234ABC! at the prompt.
8. The USB drive has two bootable partitions. Go to the **Boot** menu and ensure that the UEFI partition of the USB drive (name starts with "UEFI:") is **Boot Option #1** when installing on hardware that uses UEFI. Only use the non-UEFI partition (by setting it to **Boot Option #1**) when installing on older hardware such as the B1-105 appliance.
9. Press **F4** to save the selection and exit the screen.
10. When prompted with **Save & Exit?**, select **Yes** and press **Enter**.

## Installing the ISO Image

Before installing the ISO image, note the following best practices:

- If you do not configure an NTP server or local DNS resolver, the NIOS-X server will default to using the Ubuntu NTP server ([ntp.ubuntu.com](http://ntp.ubuntu.com) or [time.google.com](http://time.google.com) or [time.windows.com](http://time.windows.com)) and Universal DDI DNS (IP: 52.119.40.100).
- Ensure that the NTP port (UDP 123) and the DNS port (TCP/UDP 53) are open on the firewall, because NTP and DNS services do not communicate through an HTTPS proxy.
- If you need to re-configure the server, you must first reset it to the factory default. For information, see <u>*[Resetting the B1-212](https://docs.infoblox.com/space/DeployB1212Appliance/375423212/Resetting+the+B1-212)*</u>.

- **Upgrade without config restore**: select the second option **Install NIOS‑X v4.1.12‑xxx‑xxx (skip config restore) on Dell EMC serial <XXXXXXXX>** to upgrade an existing NIOS-X (Bloxone) v3.x system to NIOS‑X v4.1.12 without restoring any existing configuration.<br>> 📝 This option behaves like a fresh installation on an old appliance, and all existing NIOS‑X (Bloxone) v3.x configuration and data are discarded. |

> 📝 Do not connect or disconnect the network cable during the fresh installation or upgrade.

To install the ISO image:

1. On the installation screen (as show in the image below), the first installation option is selected by default. Select the appropriate option based on your deployment scenario. The installation then starts and may take up to 30 minutes to complete.
  1. **Fresh installation or Upgrade (v3.x to v4.1.12) with config restore: **The default option **Install NIOS‑X v4.1.12‑xxx‑xxx on Dell EMC serial <XXXXXXXX>** is selected, and if no changes are made for few seconds, the system automatically proceeds to perform a fresh installation of NIOS‑X v4.1.12 on a new appliance, or to upgrade an existing NIOS-X (Bloxone) v3.x system to NIOS‑X v4.1.12 while restoring the existing host bootstrap configuration.
  2. **Upgrade (v3.x to v4.1.12) without config restore: **Select **Install NIOS‑X v4.1.12‑xxx‑xxx (skip config restore) on Dell EMC serial <XXXXXXXX>** (second option) to upgrade an existing NIOS-X (Bloxone) v3.x system to NIOS‑X v4.1.12 without restoring any existing configuration. This option behaves like a fresh installation flow, and all existing NIOS‑X (Bloxone) v3.x configuration and data are discarded.
2. During backend configuration and installation of logs, a blank screen appears for approximately two minutes, after which the following screen appears.

After the health check completes successfully, the following screen appears:
